Health & Safety Services

Ensuring a safe working environment through comprehensive health and safety assessments and solutions.

Competent Person Service – Under the Management of Health & Safety Regulations 1999 an organisation must have access to a competent person to enable you to meet the requirements of health and safety law. A competent person is someone who has sufficient qualifications, training and experience or knowledge to enable them to assist you properly.

We can act as your competent person available for guidance and advice as required on a retainer basis with options to access other services as required. This service is specifically useful for smaller or low risk organisations who may not employ their own health and safety specialist, we can be there to talk through problems, give advice and support as and when you need it.

Policies and Procedures – Any organisation employing 5 persons or more are required to have a documented health and safety policy stating the overarching commitment to manage health and safety in accordance with the Health & Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and other specific legislation relevant to the workplace. The length and detail within this will be determined by the type or organisation and level of risk. A policy or procedure should be as short or long as it needs to be.

We pride ourselves in the development of policies and procedures that meet your legal requirements but are short, simple, do not use jargon and user friendly for your employees.

Risk Assessment - Risk assessment is the process of identifying hazards that could cause harm to a person(s) or negatively affect an organisation's ability to conduct business. These assessments help identify hazards and define measures, processes and controls to reduce the impact of the risks to an acceptable level. Risk assessments should focus on significant risks rather than the trivial to ensure they are relevant, meaningful and overly long or complex enabling employees to understand and appreciate their value.

As well as more generalised risk assessments, specific risk assessments for individuals such as for young or inexperienced persons, new and expectant mothers, persons using display screen equipment, persons with specific needs etc. may also be required. We can support you with all aspects of risk assessment development, review or gap analysis.

Audits – Audits are a systematic review of your systems and processes to ensure that you are compliant with relevant legislation. They can cover your whole health and safety management system or target specific areas or risk or considered weakness. An audit report will give you clear information on your areas of strength and compliance, and any areas where gaps are identified. An action plan is provided that clearly details any non-compliances and gaps and actions you need to take to improve or rectify them.

Inspections – Inspections are visual in their nature and are a tool to identify any potential hazards and areas of risk within the workplace, including the premises, equipment and observed practices. As per audits, these can cover the entire workplace or be targeted to higher risk areas or areas where there have been accidents or near miss incidents. Following an inspection a report will be provided showing good practices and areas of improvement with support on how to rectify.

Incident Investigation – Following a near miss, accident or adverse incident an investigation should be undertaken to determine the root cause and what changes need to be made to stop recurrence. Blame should not factor into an investigation, the investigation should be undertaken in an independent and unbiased way. We can undertake an independent investigations for you.
